Much like my review of the Tassimo coffee maker, I was hesitant to include any Nespresso Citiz reviews on the Espresso Fanatic. I’m generally not a huge fan of automated espresso machines, and the Nespresso Citiz Automatic espresso maker is pretty much as automated as it gets!
But I realize that many people these days simply do not have the time to learn how to use a manual or semi-automatic machine. It takes time to learn how to use them and figure out their various nuances.
One’s morning schedule is hectic as it is, and the time it takes to produce espresso from a traditional espresso machine takes time and effort – things that are often in limited supply.
The Nespresso Citiz automatic espresso maker therefore fulfills the needs of a certain segment of the population by automating the espresso maker process and providing good quality drinks at the same time.
What follows is a closer look at the Nespresso Citiz automatic espresso maker, including photos, videos, Nespresso Citiz reviews (from customers), and my personal thoughts on this machine. Hopefully by the end of this review you will have a good idea as to whether this machine is well-suited for your needs.
My Nespresso Citiz Automatic Espresso Maker Review
The Nespresso Citiz is one of those sleekly designed machines that is sure to be a conversation-starter for any new visitors to your kitchen. It features a retro-modern design and comes in a number of colors including white, black, Limousine Black, Silver Chrome, and Fire-engine Red.
But beneath its sleek exterior is a similarly sophisticated interior.
To make a coffee beverage, you simply insert a capsule into the machine and press one of two buttons at the top (one for a short pull the other for a long pull). Within a few seconds, espresso immediately pours into the bottom of your cup.
Unlike other automatic espresso machines, this one actually does a fairly good job in terms of quality. The espresso comes out at just the right speed (about 25 seconds for full extraction) and features a thick crema layer. It tastes surprisingly smooth, though perhaps not as full-tasting as espresso from a traditional machine.
Now, for a very serious espresso drinker, this machine may come up a bit short. The crema layer on top is a bit more of a beige color and dissipates fairly quickly. But for someone who drinks cappuccinos or lattes, the espresso generated from this machine will serve quite nicely.
Although you can purchase just the Nespresso Citiz automatic espresso maker, it is most common to purchase the units with the milk frother.
Frothing milk is super easy and surprisingly quiet. You just put the milk into the frothing jug, close the lid, and press a button. The machine then goes into action frothing the milk.
Now I must say that as a professional barista I am surprised how well this machine froths milk. The foam is very smooth and creamy and works beautifully in a latte or cappuccino. One of the major drawbacks of the Tassimo was its inability to produce great foam. The Nespresso Citiz automatic espresso maker definetly excels in this category.
Overall, the drinks that this machine produces are quite good. You have a number of different coffee types to choose from, and experimenting with different flavors can be an exciting process.
However, I should point out that this machine only accepts the Nespresso capsules. You cannot freshly grind espresso for this machine. For some people, this can be a drawback in case you decide to upgrade your gear. For other people, this does not present much of a problem as convenience is their highest priority.
Other Nespresso Citiz Reviews
Before writing this article, I did a bit of research to see what customer had to say about this machine. Generally, most Nespresso Citiz reviews were overwhelming positive and highlighted this machines perfect balance between convenience and quality.
The only negative reviews came from people who were serious espresso drinkers – but of course if achieving the very best espresso is your priority, than this machine is not for you.
I have included excerpts from some Nespresso Citiz reviews to give you a broader look at consumer feedback:
“[The Nespresso] is the real thing. The capsules contain nothing more than espresso coffee grounds. The machine is simply an automated and miniaturized “real” espresso rig. And the results speak for themselves.” D. Thiel, Amazon.com
“It’s like the world’s smartest drug dealers got together and designed this thing. Got the slightest urge? Satisfy it! Why not? Just hit the button and it’s there.” Hoke Simpson, Amazon.com
“It is so good that it makes you think about what you are drinking and appreciate the experience of really good coffee. Like someone wrote in a previous review, “we’re not going to Starbucks anymore.” Yes it is expensive, but over time can actually save money.” Kate Jacobs, Amazon.com
Where To Buy The Nespresso Citiz Automatic Espresso Maker
The cheapest price I could find for this machine was on Amazon. This machine usually retails for $350, but right now you can purchase the whole rig (including frother) for $329. This of course includes Amazon’s unparalleled return policy and F.R.E.E. shipping.
If you’ve ever purchased from Amazon before, you will already be aware of their lightning fast delivery time. If you purchase this machine today, you could be enjoy great-tasting specialty coffee in the comfort of your own home within a week. Honestly if I had a choice between going to Starbucks or having a Nespresso cappuccino, I would go for the Nespresso hands-down. It will change how you look at coffee and save you money in the long-term.
